Marcela has been passionate about cooking from a very young age. She fondly remembers helping her mother and aunts in the kitchen when they had family reunions, and this is where her love for the culinary world started. Whenever she ate anything she liked she would ask for the recipe and then come back home and recreate it in the kitchen with her mother. She then joined her cousin's catering company as a kitchen assistant to gain professional experience. Later, she studied culinary arts at the first cooking school that existed in Medellin, and went on to work in several restaurants. She further developed her passion for food developing her own brand of sauces, creating a shop where she sells and rents home decor and dishware, and doing catering and food styling for recognized brands. Join Marcela in her beautiful rustic home which was designed by her husband, Santiago, an artist. You will be welcomed into their home with Marcela and Santiago's warm smiles and interesting stories. While you sip on your welcome drink, they will introduce you to Colombian food and culture. Later, join Marcela and Santiago for a traditional Colombian meal. You might enjoy dishes such as bandeja paisa (a traditional Colombian dish made with red beans cooked with pork, white rice, ground meat, fried egg, plantain, chorizo, avocado and lemon), tamales (a traditional dish made of dough steamed in a corn husk or banana leaf), or arepa de huevo (corn cake and egg). If you book a cooking experience, cook alongside Marcela and learn to make a traditional Colombian appetizer, main dish and dessert. The cooking experience lasts approximately two hours. Marcela also offers an optional market tour add-on where you can drive together to a local market for a private tour; walk through many stalls selling fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and other groceries and purchase a few fresh ingredients to use later during your cooking class.
