Abercrombie & Kent: Tailor Made Brazil by Private Air
Day 1 SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL
Arrive in São Paulo, where you are met and transferred to your luxurious hotel. This evening, savor an amazing taste experience at Michelin-starred DOM restaurant.
After breakfast, fly by charter air to Iguazu Falls, where you are met and privately transferred to your hotel. After check-in, set out on a walk along the Brazilian side of the falls, descending to a vantage point offering panoramic views of the more than 240 cascades that comprise this stunning natural wonder. Then, board a glass elevator to a platform offering a different perspective on the amazing scene. You are surrounded by Iguazu National Park, a rainforest that, along with the waterfalls, has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Return to your hotel for lunch before embarking by speedboat for an adventurous ride to the foot of the falls. Feel their power as you bask in the mist they cast up around your boat. Tonight, enjoy a special six-course dinner created by a former chef of the Belmond Hotel, savoring a gastronomical journey through Brazilian culinary history. Your dinner includes a wine pairing with bottles from top South American wineries. Listen as the chef explains the origins of the ingredients and describes Brazilian culinary curiosities.
Today, you may wish to rise early and explore the falls at your leisure, when fewer visitors are on site. After breakfast, visit the Birds Park, an internationally recognized rescue and conservation center for birds, located in the middle of the verdant Atlantic Rainforest. Then, board a private charter flight to South Pantanal, landing at Caiman Ecological Refuge, a pioneering ecotourism retreat situated on a 130,000-acre ranch in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Upon arrival, have lunch and partake of your lodge’s many activities before relaxing with a sundowner. Located in the geographic center of South America, the Pantanal is the largest wetland in the world and provides habitat for the largest concentration of wildlife in the Americas. Over 650 species of birds, 400 species of fish and 80 species of mammals, many threatened with extinction, call this UNESCO World Biosphere home. Tonight, enjoy dinner at your lodge.
Today, take part in a range of included activities available at your lodge, such as a guided wildlife safari by 4x4 vehicle, in which you search for capybara, giant otter, coati, black howler monkey and other species across the fascinating landscapes of the Pantanal. You may opt for a night safari as well to view nocturnal species such as the ocelot, giant anteater and jaguar. Other choices include canoeing the nearby bay at sunset, hiking the area’s plentiful trails and delving into the Pantanal way of life on visits to important places in the community. Alternatively, focus your day solely upon seeking the region’s apex predator, the jaguar, alongside the local Jaguar Habituation Team. Increase your chances of spotting the powerful cat in the wild, tracking it on foot and checking camera traps with the team. Then, set out at sunset or just after dinner in search of jaguar, which are most active during evening hours.
During your second day at the Caiman lodge, take your choice of all the same activities available on Day 4, including wildlife safaris, hiking, canoeing, community visits and jaguar tracking, taking full advantage of this opportunity to absorb all the Pantanal has to offer.
After breakfast, lift off from the Caiman landing strip by private aircraft for a scenic flight over the Pantanal to Campo Grand Airport, where you board your private jet to Salvador. Upon arrival, you are met and privately transferred to your elegant hotel, just minutes’ walking distance from Pelourinho, the historical center of Salvador. Explore the highlights of Salvador with your guide, visiting the Barra Lighthouse and part of the lower city before concluding the tour with a casual dinner at Villa Bahia in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pelourinho, a neighborhood rich in colonial-era architecture, including numerous churches and cathedrals.
After breakfast, set out to explore São Joaquim market, one of the best places to get a feel for local culture as you encounter Salvadorans pursuing their daily routine. Ever bustling and bordering on the chaotic, the market sells a myriad of products and produce, from fruits and vegetables to spare parts for domestic appliances, sacred herbs and religious artifacts, as well as the ingredients for Bahia cuisine’s signature dish, the moqueca. Continue to the home of a local chef to start a hands-on cooking experience. Learn how to properly season Bahian cuisine, combining ingredients such as coriander leaf, coconut and Dende palm oil from Africa. After lunch, return to the hotel for some time at leisure. Later, gather for dinner at the hotel before departing for an evening immersed in African heritage, with an exhilarating performance by the Bahia Folklore Company.
After breakfast in Salvador, board your private flight to Rio de Janeiro, which its residents, the Cariocas, lovingly refer to as the "Cidade Maravilhosa" (Marvelous City). Upon arrival, check in to your luxurious accommodations and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.
Explore the best of Rio de Janeiro today, starting downtown on a guided walk of the historic city center, viewing sites central to local history and culture. Hop on and off the Rio VLT electric train, which carries you to the revitalized port area to view the massive Cobra murals, each a dazzling example of Brazilian graffiti art. Also visit Santa Teresa, a neighborhood that attracts artists and bohemians with its architectural and cultural charms, and where old-fashioned cable cars navigate the narrow streets. Stop for lunch at the sophisticated Térèze restaurant, sampling local cuisine and taking in views of the neighborhood. Then, go behind the scenes of the Rio Carnival, starting with the Samba City. Learn how the local Samba schools engage in year-round production to create the lavish floats and costumes that are presented in the annual carnival parade.
After breakfast, enjoy your morning at leisure. This evening, ride by cable car to the top of Sugar Loaf for panoramic views of the city, which you toast with sundowners overlooking Copacabana Beach as sunset approaches. Then, board a helicopter from the Sugar Loaf for a 360-degree viewing of Rio’s iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, before continuing over the beaches and stately Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, as incredible landscapes unfold below. Upon landing, take the cable car down and transfer to the Assador, a classic churrascaria restaurant that takes barbecue to succulent new heights. Sit down to a dinner of authentic Brazilian taste sensations on this last full day of your adventure.
After breakfast, embark by sailboat across beautiful Guanabara Bay, taking in the city’s skyline and its lush mountain backdrop. Cruise in toward the beachfront of Rio’s sister city, Niteroi, for views of Oscar Niemeyer’s Museum of Contemporary Art and the Costa e Silva Bridge. Afterward, transfer to the airport for your departing flight.
